Nava hits grand slam as Red Sox rout Phillies

Baseball Betting Lines

06/12/2010 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Daniel Nava went 2-for-4 and hit a grand slam in his first major-league at-bat as Boston once again pounded Philadelphia, 10-2, in the middle test of a three-game interleague set from Fenway Park.

Nava joined three other players in baseball history to clear the bases with a home run in their first big-league plate appearance, and became just the second player ever to hit one on the first pitch -- joining Kevin Kouzmanoff when he did it for Oakland on September 2, 2006.

J.D. Drew homered and drove in two runs and Marco Scutaro also drove in a pair for the Red Sox, who have won the first two games in the series by a combined 22-4 score and have taken four of six overall.

Manny Delcarmen (2-2) allowed one hit in two scoreless relief innings for the win.

Scott Atchison allowed two hits and two runs in three full frames. He started in place of Daisuke Matsuzaka, who was a late scratch after being placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain.

Brian Schneider went 3-for-4 with a two-run double for the Phillies, who skidded to their third straight defeat and fifth in six games.

Joe Blanton (1-5) was scorched in the loss for a season-worst 13 hits and nine runs over four innings, fanning four with one walk.

Philly got on the board in the second. Ben Francisco was plunked to start the inning and Raul Ibanez singled. Both men advanced on a Greg Dobbs sacrifice, then scored when Schneider placed a ball inside the bag at third for a two-run double.

Drew led off the home second with a homer inside the Pesky Pole in right field, then Adrian Beltre singled, Jason Varitek reached on a bunt to third and Darnell McDonald singled.

Nava brought them all in on his first career blast, a grand slam on Blanton's first pitch which sailed into the bullpen in right for a 5-2 game.

Nava came up with the sacks full again in the third but struck out on a check swing. Scutaro followed with a two-run single and Dustin Pedroia knocked in another for an 8-2 score.

Kevin Youkilis singled to start the fourth and Drew's looping double to left knocked him in.

In the sixth, Varitek grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to push across Boston's 10th run.

The Phils had runners on first and third with one out in the ninth facing Jonathan Papelbon, but Schneider flew out and pinch-hitter Ross Gload struck out swinging to end the contest.

Game Notes

Boston improved to 4-1 against Philadelphia in interleague play this season...Every Red Sox starter collected at least one hit...To complete the Matsuzaka move, the Sox recalled pitcher Dustin Richardson from Triple-A Pawtucket...Nava was recalled from Pawtucket when outfielder Josh Reddick was optioned to the PawSox prior to the contest.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.

NFL Sports Betting

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.

Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.

Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.

The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
