Peavy dominates as Padres sweep Brewers

05/28/2007 - San Diego, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jake Peavy continued to dominate, fanning another eight batters while giving up only two hits in seven innings, as the San Diego Padres topped the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-0, to complete a three-game sweep.

Peavy (7-1) allowed only two singles and a walk, and helped his cause with an RBI double to lead the Padres to their 10th win in 13 games. Adrian Gonzalez belted his 12th home run, and Marcus Giles had an RBI single for San Diego. Trevor Hoffman tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his 15th save.

Jeff Suppan (6-5) allowed six hits and three runs over six innings, while striking out three and walking six. It was the first shutout of the season for the fading Brewers, who have dropped five straight, and 12 of 16.

Gonzalez led off the fourth with a homer to right, giving the Padres a 1-0 lead.

Geoff Blum ripped a one-out double in the sixth, and came home on Peavy's two- out double to left. Giles followed with a single to center, scoring Peavy. The Padres ace made the three-run lead stand up.

"With Peavy, you figure you're going to have to win the game 2-1, or 2-0," said Brewers manager Ned Yost.
