04/05/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - With time running out in their chase for the playoffs, the St. Louis Blues will host the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at Scottrade Center.
St. Louis comes into tonight as the 10th seed in the West and is trailing Colorado by six points for the conference's eighth and final playoff berth. The Blues, who have four wins in their last five outings, have just four games left in the regular season.
The Blues were dealt a regulation loss Thursday in Nashville, but rebounded with Saturday's close victory over visiting Dallas. Carlo Colaiacovo scored the game-winner in the third to help St. Louis take the 2-1 decision over the Stars, who fell one point behind the Blues after the setback.
"We thought we weren't giving it our best effort and we knew we needed this game to stay in the hunt," said Colaiacovo. "So we came out in the third determined to play better than the first two periods and it worked out."
T.J. Oshie scored the other goal while Chris Mason stopped 24 shots for the Blues, who have won 13 of their last 19 games.
Blues defenseman Barret Jackman missed Saturday's game with an upper-body injury and is questionable for tonight. Veteran blueliner Darryl Sydor replaced him in the lineup and could play this evening if Jackman is out again.
Tonight marks the second-to-last home game of the regular season for St. Louis, which is just 16-18-5 as the host this year.
Columbus, meanwhile, has already been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention and the Blue Jackets enter tonight after losing consecutive 3-2 regulation decisions.
The Jackets lost Thursday evening in Detroit and returned home for Saturday's setback against Washington. Jose Theodore stopped 34 shots to help the Capitals claim the victory at Nationwide Arena.
Antoine Vermette scored both goals for the Blue Jackets. Mathieu Garon started in net but gave up two goals on four shots before leaving just over 10 minutes into the contest. Steve Mason finished the game in net and stopped 22 shots.
"The disappointing thing was I thought we played well enough to win the game," said Columbus head coach Claude Noel. "We had good enough chances. The obvious thing that stands out was the lack of success on the 5-on-3. We really didn't generate much of anything."
Tonight's test is the first of two straight on the road for the Blue Jackets, who are just 12-22-5 as the guest this year. Columbus will play its final road test of the campaign Wednesday in Detroit before closing the regular season at home against the Red Wings on Friday.
The Blue Jackets have won three of five against St. Louis this year, but the Blues have taken five of eight overall in the series. Columbus has also lost nine of its last 11 games at Scottrade Center.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.
